A Ford Focus carrying the two men was speeding southbound on G Street about 1:15 a.m. when it crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a utility pole near Luzerne Street, police said.
The passenger, a 33-year-old man who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 a.m. The driver, 20, who lives in the neighborhood, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said. - Sam Wood
