Charges against a Coatesville man who led police on a high-speed chase while allegedly impaired by drugs will be filed Monday, state police said yesterday.

Edmund F. Carpenter, 30, was hospitalized with injuries after crashing his vehicle into a parked car on Christmas morning in Caln Township, police said. He is not a flight risk and plans to turn himself in on Monday, police said.

Carpenter refused attempts to pull him over after he turned left at a red light onto Lincoln Highway in Coatesville, police said. He exceeded 130 m.p.h. in a two-mile chase to Thorndale, said police, who concluded he was under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to court records, Carpenter is on probation for a March 2007 conviction for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. - Kathleen Brady Shea
