An eyewitness helped foil an armed robbery at a Lower Merion convenience store Saturday by calling police as it was happening, authorities said.
Right after receiving the 1:13 a.m. call, officers surrounded the 7-Eleven on City Avenue near Haverford Road. In the alley behind the store, they arrested a man in the driver's seat of an idling vehicle, police said.
Meanwhile, two men in ski masks "burst out the front door" of the store, police said. One got away. The other, carrying a handgun and a gym bag with cash and cigarettes, was arrested in the parking lot, police said.
Mykeal King, 23, and Cory Foster, 22, both of Philadelphia, were charged with robbery and other offenses and jailed after failing to post $100,000 cash bail, police said. Authorities did not distinguish which of the two had been the presumed getaway driver and which had been captured in the parking lot.
