Police identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide in Chester County Tuesday night as Audra Melrath Aston, 41, and her estranged husband, Eric David Aston, 42. Court records showed they had been married for 19 years.

East Brandywine police were dispatched about 5:15 p.m. to a shooting at a residence in the 200 block of Lenora Lane owned by Diane and Loren Aston. Officers found Audra Aston in her vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head; her husband was in the rear of the property with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Police said Eric Aston was pronounced dead at the scene, and Audra Aston was flown to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where she died. Police said Eric Aston and the couple's 11-year-old son had been living with Eric Aston's parents and that Audra Aston had come to take their son to dinner. The two were speaking outside when a shot was heard; family members saw Eric Aston distraught, holding a gun, and running from the car, police said, adding that the investigation was continuing. - Kathleen Brady Shea
