Woman fatally stabbed, couple beaten in Vineland

A Vineland, N.J., woman was stabbed to death in her home on the 1700 block of West Chestnut Avenue late Friday, Vineland police said.

Sharon Carter, 56, suffered multiple stab wounds, and her husband, William, was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Police said they considered him a person of interest.

In an unrelated attack on the other side of town, a 69-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were beaten by two men with handguns after the couple pulled their vending truck into their driveway in the 200 block of Yelkca Avenue. The men, who wore masks, fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The woman was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center and the man to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, both with severe head injuries, police said. - Chris Mondics
