Philadelphia police announced Friday that a national DNA database had matched a convicted sex offender currently held in prison with a rape that occurred in 2005 in the city's East Germantown section.
Franklin Evans, 34, who is in prison for indecent deviate sexual intercourse with a minor, was matched by the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) with the July 28, 2005, rape of a 23-year-old woman in the 5100 block of Clarkson Street, police said. She was assaulted and robbed of $65.
On Wednesday, Evans was taken from Graterford Prison to the Special Victims Unit and charged with rape and related offenses. The CODIS match was achieved after Evans submitted DNA upon entering the state prison system in the other sex-assault case, police said. - Robert Moran
