Pregnant woman critically hurt by stray shot

A 20-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant was in critical condition after being hit by a stray bullet Tuesday night in Overbrook, police said.

A 20-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant was in critical condition after being hit by a stray bullet Tuesday night in Overbrook, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, was on the steps in front of a house in the 1600 block of North 60th Street when someone opened fire shortly after 9 p.m., police said. The woman was hit in the back.

A 20-year-old man was struck in the leg. He was in stable condition, police said. Both shooting victims were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where the woman underwent surgery.

Police were questioning one person in the shooting, but it was unclear Tuesday night whether that person was a witness or a suspect. - Allison Steele
