WILKES-BARRE - A man has been convicted again in the murder of a driver from Montgomery County who picked him up hitchhiking nearly three decades ago.

Jurors in Luzerne County on Wednesday convicted James Strong, 59, of first-degree murder, kidnapping, robbery, and theft in the August 1983 shotgun slaying of John Strock of Glenside along I-81 in Dorrance Township.

Strong was convicted in 1984 and sentenced to death, but the state Supreme Court granted him a new trial because prosecutors had failed to disclose an agreement with codefendant James Alexander, who died in prison. - AP
