Western Pa. high school athlete slain in N.C.

DURHAM, N.C. - A high school football player from Western Pennsylvania was shot to death Thursday night in a parking lot, police said Friday.

Darrell Turner, 18, a linebacker and rising senior at Gateway High School in Monroeville, was killed and a teammate, Thomas Woodson, 15, was wounded in one leg, Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said. Gabriel James Gamez, 22, of San Antonio, Texas, was charged with murder and assault in the Thursday night shootings. - AP
