Gov. Corbett on Wednesday nominated Joseph E. "Skip" Brion, chairman of the Republican Committee of Chester County, for a seat on the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Brion, a managing partner at Buckley, Brion, McGuire, Morris & Sommer in West Chester, will be up for Senate confirmation to replace outgoing board member Thomas Goldsmith.
The LCB oversees liquor and wine sales at more than 600 state-owned retail stores. The governor has said he wants to privatize the system, and a study his office commissioned on the subject is expected to be made public this month. Also expected this month is a bill by House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R., Allegheny) that will detail plans to privatize the system.
According to campaign-finance reports, the Republican Committee of Chester County contributed $44,000 to Corbett's gubernatorial campaign in 2010. Brion personally contributed $1,000, those records show. - Angela Couloumbis
