Off-duty Pemberton Twp. officer killed in crash

An off-duty Pemberton Township police officer was killed in a single-car crash early Sunday morning, police said.

Shawn Kitson, 28, a patrolman for six years, died in the crash, which happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Pemberton Browns Mills Road, just east of Four Mile Road, police said.

Kitson was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden with extensive head injuries. He is survived by his wife and 2-year-old son. The accident remains under investigation.
