A Jenkintown man charged with trying to hire a hit man to kill three people has filed a petition in Montgomery County Court for the return of $11,000 removed from his person and car during the arrest.

Paul R. Vangore, 47, a renovation contractor, said through his attorney, Francis Recchuiti, that the money was illegally seized when he was arrested Nov. 30, even though it was not "contraband."

Assistant District Attorney Matthew Quigg responded that the funds were intended as "a down payment to murder three people. ... The cash was in furtherance of the solicitation," Quigg said.

In an affidavit attached to the criminal complaint, authorities alleged that Vangore appeared for a meeting in Cheltenham Township and agreed to pay an undercover detective $7,500 to have the three killed. - Bonnie L. Cook
