Police were seeking a man Wednesday who claimed to be a job seeker and stole a charity jar for Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania from a Southwest Philadelphia auto-body shop. The jar contained between $200 and $400, police said.

Police said the man entered the office of Twins Auto Body Shop, 2525 S. 72d St. in the Eastwick section, about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday and inquired about employment. After he left, a surveillance camera outside the shop caught him checking several times to see if the office was empty before entering and snatching the jar, police said. He fled on a mountain bike.

The thief was described as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a thin build and sporting a goatee. He was wearing a light gray or white hooded sweatshirt, a gray or black jacket, and blue jeans, police said. Authorities ask that anyone with information call Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3183 or -3184.
