A double shooting during an alleged robbery at a Delaware County dollar store Thursday left a store clerk in guarded condition and the suspect in surgery in Crozer-Chester Medical Center, police said.

Just after 3 p.m., a man entered the Dollar Magic store on Chester Road in Springfield Township, produced a gun, and announced a robbery. The female cashier left the register, another employee came up to the suspect, and a struggle ensued, according to Joe Daly, Springfield Township police chief.

The gun the suspect was carrying discharged, striking the employee in the shoulder. The suspect accidentally shot himself in the pelvic area, Daly said. Police responding to the robbery found the suspect unconscious from blood loss in his car, which was running at the exit of the parking lot, Daly said. - Mari A. Schaefer
