Weeklong fire in North Jersey may be contained soon

Firefighters in North Jersey could be close to putting out a warehouse fire that has burned since last week.

Firefighters in North Jersey could be close to putting out a warehouse fire that has burned since last week.

The blaze at the former Burry's Biscuits warehouse in Elizabeth broke out Wednesday, spewing black smoke that could be seen for miles. The fire was contained over the weekend, but safety concerns have kept firefighters from fully attacking the fire.

Fire personnel say a demolition company could be on the scene as early as Tuesday to assess the best way to penetrate the building and put out the remaining fire.

Authorities aren't sure what sparked the blaze, though it's believed that it started with a car fire inside a body shop in the warehouse. No injuries have been reported. - AP
