A mother shot and killed a robber Tuesday night in Oak Lane after he reportedly pistol-whipped her son during an attempted armed robbery, police said.
Police responded to the Adams Run apartment complex on Godfrey Avenue near Crescentville Road about 9:15 p.m. and found a 19-year-old man shot once in his chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:24 p.m. with his gun beside his body.
The mother, 43, called 911 saying that she shot a man who had repeatedly hit her son over the head with a gun, said Police Inspector Scott Small. The victim was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center with graze wounds to the head.
The mother, who had a permit to carry a firearm, was in custody Tuesday night, but no charges had been filed, Small said. - Staff report
