Fire at Divine Lorraine extinguished quickly

Flames erupted briefly Tuesday night from the roof of the historic Divine Lorraine building on North Broad Street.

Flames erupted briefly Tuesday night from the roof of the historic Divine Lorraine building on North Broad Street.

The fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. in the building at Broad Street and Fairmount Avenue, fire officials said.

Firefighters took extra time and caution getting a water line up to the roof because the interior of the long-shuttered building is not safe, fire officials said.

The fire was declared under control shortly before 8 p.m. No injuries were reported. - Robert Moran
