A year after placing Fair Acres Geriatric Center in the hands of a private operator, Delaware County Council has appointed a new administrator and resumed control of the Middletown Township facility.
William G. D'Amico, a Springfield native and resident who the county said has 17 years of experience in long-term health care, was introduced to the staff of the county home Tuesday. At its 210-acre complex, Fair Acres provides care to more than 900 residents.
The facility had operated under a contract with Premier Healthcare Resources since March 2011, when former administrator Joseph Dougherty became the county's director of human services.
The county home dates to 1807 and moved to its present location in 1857.
