Troubled Harrisburg schools get recovery officer

HARRISBURG - State education officials named a chief recovery officer Wednesday for the troubled Harrisburg schools. Gene Veno will help develop a recovery plan for the district, which serves about 6,700 students.

HARRISBURG - State education officials named a chief recovery officer Wednesday for the troubled Harrisburg schools. Gene Veno will help develop a recovery plan for the district, which serves about 6,700 students.

Education Secretary Ronald Tomalis announced the appointment. A new law allows him to name recovery officers in districts the state has labeled financially distressed.

Veno is a consultant with experience in business and management. He previously served on the school board in Scranton. - AP
