WASHINGTON, Pa. - A former police chief in the Pittsburgh suburbs died after struggling with officers who were trying to arrest him in another community.

Authorities said onetime Rankin chief Darryl Briston died late Saturday after trying to flee police and security at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino. State police allege Briston had just punched a man who was with the chief's ex-wife at the casino in North Strabane Township.

Police used a stun gun to subdue Briston, 49, of North Braddock, after a foot chase. He had difficulty breathing. Police said they called an ambulance, but Briston went into cardiac arrest and died at a hospital. - AP
