Report: Missing Pa. woman texts 'I'm okay' to searchers

The 12-hour search of a state park in western Pennsylvania was called off Friday night after a missing woman texted investigators to say she was okay.

The 34-year-old Latrobe woman told emergency responders around 9 p.m. that she'd fled into the woods of Linn Run State Park after receiving a speeding ticket and fearing arrest, according to a report from The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

But that wasn't before a team of nearly 60 people, a bloodhound unit and a state police helicopter combed the 600-acre park to search for the unidentified woman, who was reported missing by family members around 9 a.m.

Westmoreland County Public Safety spokesman Dan Stevens told the paper that the woman isn't expected to face criminal charges but called the efforts to locate her "a waste of manpower."

"A lot of resources were used for someone who didn't want to be found," Stevens said.
