Suspicious devices at Montco police station were training tools
Law enforcement officials determined the devices were training tools, not actual bombs. Detonation was not required and no one was injured.
Suspicious devices that led to the evacuation of a Montgomery County police station Wednesday afternoon were training tools mistaken for actual bombs.
A Franconia Township resident found the materials — five clay bricks and an aluminum container with protruding wires — while cleaning the room of his son, who is overseas serving in the military. Around noon, the resident brought them to the police station at 671 Allentown Road in Telford, authorities said.
The materials were placed on the lawn outside the building, police said, and the station and surrounding offices were evacuated as a precaution.
The items were first thought to be live explosives. But authorities eventually determined they were marked as "inert," and most likely used for training purposes.
The resident who brought in the materials also reached his son overseas, and the son confirmed the packages were for training.
Detonation was not required, and no one was injured.
