Firefighter, 2 residents hurt in Northeast Philly fire

About four dozen people were displaced by the fire.

A firefighter and two residents were injured early Tuesday in a fire in an apartment building in Northeast Philadelphia, officials said. The blaze displaced about four dozen people.

The firefighter was taken to hospital for what was described as a minor injury. The two residents were initially reported to be in serious condition.

The blaze in the two-story Canterbury Court building on Academy Road and Morrell Avenue was reported about 12:30 a.m. Arriving firefighters found flames coming out of window on the second floor. It took them about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Displaced residents were placed on a SEPTA bus while firefighters battled the blaze. Teams from the Red Cross and the city's Office of Emergency Management responded to assist the people forced out their homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
