A trucker drove his rig under a low overpass, peeling off the trailer's roof like the top of a sardine can, and reportedly dragged the 50-foot long strip of metal for about three miles through the streets of Philadelphia before finally stopping.

The roof, 6ABC said, came off the trailer about 10:30 p.m. Monday, when the rig went under the 12-foot, 11-inch-high railroad trestle on Callowhill Street at 11th Street, a notorious truck eater.

Video supplied by a viewer to the station showed the rig noisily pulling the peeled-off roof and the trailer's door down a narrow residential street with cars parked on both sides.

The driver finally stopped at 21st Street and Point Breeze Avenue, about three miles away.

Police confirmed the incident and said the driver was issued a citation by the Truck Enforcement Unit.
