Man dies in Delaware County crash with SEPTA bus

Donald Lee Rieck, 50, of Newtown Square, died after striking a SEPTA bus on West Chester Pike early Thursday morning. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

A man died early Thursday after slamming into a SEPTA bus on a Delaware County highway, Newtown Township police said.

Donald Lee Rieck, 50, of Newtown Square, was driving a black Nissan Altima westbound on the 3400 block of West Chester Pike in Newtown Square around 12:30 a.m. when he crashed into the back of the bus, police said. After the crash, the car continued traveling along the side of the road before coming to a stop, police said.

Authorities had to extricate Rieck from the vehicle. He was transported to Paoli Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. There were no passengers in the car.

The driver of the SEPTA bus was transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said. At the time of the crash, the bus was also carrying two passengers, both of whom were uninjured.

Police said they were investigating the cause of the accident. No additional details were available Thursday afternoon.
