Police were investigating drive-by paintball attacks Thursday in West Philadelphia whose targets included transgender victims.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a man and woman walking in the area of 42nd Street and Baltimore Avenue were shot at by a group of people inside what appeared to have been a silver Infiniti M35 sedan, said Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives. The woman was hit with paint splatter.

The couple saw their attackers then shot two young people nearby and drove away, Walker said.

About 4:15 p.m., four transgender people were sitting on the porch of a residence in the 5000 block of Woodland Avenue when the Infiniti drove by and the shooter fired multiple shots, Walker said. One person was struck several times and two others were hit once each.

The victims, who believed they were under real gunfire and dove for cover, reported hearing the occupants of the Infiniti laugh as they drove away.

No descriptions were available of the people in the car, Walker said.
