McGarrigle to leave council

MEDIA Delaware County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle will step down at the end of the month.

McGarrigle, a Republican, was elected in November to the state senate, where he will fill the seat of retiring Sen. Edwin "Ted" Erickson.

The four other members of the all-Republican county council will appoint a new member to serve the one year remaining in McGarrigle's term. McGarrigle said anyone interested in the seat can submit a resume to the county clerk's office.

"I've enjoyed every day of it," McGarrigle said of seven years on county council. "It was very fulfilling to me."
