DOYLESTOWN Dean Malik, an Iraq War veteran and a former Bucks County assistant district attorney, this week announced his candidacy as a Republican for the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's Eighth District.

"I have four children, and I believe in personal responsibility and individual freedom, and I want my children to grow up in a place where they can reach their greatest potential," Malik said Wednesday.

The Eighth District includes Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County.

Malik is married, lives in New Britain Township, and has a law practice in Doylestown. He also ran for the seat now held by Republican Mike Fitzpatrick in 2010. Fitzpatrick is retiring in 2016.
