Vereb elected as Montco GOP chairman

EAST NORRITON As expected, the Montgomery County Republican Committee on Wednesday elected State Rep. Mike Vereb as its new chairman.

Vereb, the only nominee, was voted in unanimously by 478 committee members.

Vereb said he was "honored and humbled" by his selection, and pledged to reverse declining registrations by welcoming more women, minorities, young people, and moderates.

"No political party has ever expanded its base by requiring unquestioning adherence to a single ideology or perspective," Vereb said.

The committee hastily called the vote three weeks ago when Chairman Robert J. Kerns resigned amid a criminal sex-abuse investigation. - Jessica Parks
