Ronald R. Ruane Sr., 75, a retired company owner and Korean War veteran, formerly of Springfield, Delaware County, died of heart failure last Monday at his home in Charlottesville, Va.

Mr. Ruane graduated from Upper Darby High School and attended George Washington University. During the Korean War, he served in the Army in Korea.

After his discharge he sold auto insurance for GMAC Insurance Group. In 1978 he and Fred Paige formed Paige-Ruane Inc., an insurance firm for the emerging car-leasing industry, with offices in King of Prussia and later in Stuart, Fla.

Mr. Ruane "invented" the language car-leasing insurance companies use, said his son, Ronald Jr., who now operates the firm.

After retiring in 1995, Mr. Ruane enjoyed winter vacations in Florida and summers in Ocean City, N.J. He and his wife, Mary "Sally" Wagenhoffer Ruane, moved to Virginia in 2001.

In addition to his wife of 48 years and his son, Mr. Ruane is survived by daughters Marybeth Fredericks and Noelle; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was said Thursday at St. George Church in Scottsville, Va.
