Evelyn Dangel Strubel, 89, formerly of Harleysville, a retired kindergarten teacher, died Tuesday of complications from dementia at the Rockhill Mennonite Community nursing facility in Sellersville.
Evelyn Dangel Strubel, 89, formerly of Harleysville, a retired kindergarten teacher, died Tuesday of complications from dementia at the Rockhill Mennonite Community nursing facility in Sellersville.
Mrs. Strubel graduated from Germantown High School and the Philadelphia Normal School and later earned a master's degree in education from Temple University.
She began her teaching career in 1940 in the Philadelphia School District at Steele School in Germantown. From the 1960s until her retirement in 1980, she taught kindergartners at the Roslyn School in the Abington School District.
Mrs. Strubel published numerous articles in instructional magazines and wrote a weekday children's church school curriculum for the Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed painting watercolors and playing the piano and organ. She directed the chorus and was past president of the residents association at Walnut Meadows, a retirement community in Harleysville.
Mrs. Strubel is survived by a daughter, Carolee Clemens, and two grandsons. Her husband, George M. Strubel, died in 1968.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.
