Mrs. Calvert graduated from Lower Merion High School. After earning a bachelor's degree in home economics from Drexel University, she taught in local schools for several years before marrying Samuel S. Calvert Jr. and raising a family in Ridley Township. When her children were grown, she taught home economics for 10 years at Ridley North Junior High School.
Her greatest satisfaction, said her daughter-in-law, Sherrin Calvert, was teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Ridley Park, where she was a trustee and deacon.
Mrs. Calvert enjoyed cooking for a crowd and was famous for her artistic Christmas cookies. She was an expert seamstress, her daughter-in-law said, and did beautiful English smocking.
She is survived by a son, J. Mark; a daughter, Cheryl; and four grandchildren. Her husband died in 1999.
The funeral and burial were private.
Memorial donations may be made to the Deacons Fund, First Baptist Church, 15 E. Ridley Ave., Ridley Park, Pa. 19078.
