Edward P. Taddei, 76, of Lower Gwynedd, an educator in the Upper Dublin School District for 39 years, died Saturday at Abington Memorial Hospital of complications from a stroke.
Edward P. Taddei, 76, of Lower Gwynedd, an educator in the Upper Dublin School District for 39 years, died Saturday at Abington Memorial Hospital of complications from a stroke.
Mr. Taddei was the district's assistant superintendent from 1989 to 1993. Previously he was the district's personnel director, director of middle schools, principal of Three Tuns Junior High School, and a math teacher, assistant principal and then principal at Upper Dublin Junior High School.
From 1960 to 1967, he coached the Upper Dublin High School varsity basketball team. He had a 106-50 record and three inter-county titles, his son Edward Jr. said. His twin brother, Theodore, succeeded him as coach.
Mr. Taddei enjoyed playing golf and coached Upper Dublin's golf team for several years. For 30 years, he was a basketball referee for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.
After retiring, Mr. Taddei taught math at Montgomery County Community College for almost 10 years. He always shared with his students "an intense desire to succeed," his son said.
Mr. Taddei graduated from Jenkintown High School. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education from Temple University. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the Army Signal Corps in the States and in Japan. He and his wife of 50 years, Joan Heffernan Taddei, lived in Maple Glen for 30 years. They moved to Lower Gwynedd in 2005.
In addition to his wife, brother and son, Mr. Taddei is survived by another son, Gerard; daughters Joanne Gangemi and Barbara Mackle; two other brothers; a sister; and nine grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at St. Alphonsus Church, 33 Conwell Dr., Maple Glen, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
