Ruth Marley Newlin, 79, of Paoli, a real estate broker who sold houses for 30 years, died of heart failure Feb. 15 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Newlin graduated from Lower Merion High School. She began selling real estate after she and her former husband, Richard Cox, separated in 1964. For several years she worked for the real estate firm of Andrews, Dickinson & Pinkstone in Paoli before co-founding Alpha One Real Estate in Paoli in the 1970s. She was very personable, said her daughter Carolyn Cox, and worked hard to please her clients. She retired in the early 1990s.
Since 1981, Mrs. Newlin had been married to John Shipley Newlin. The couple had homes in Paoli and Rock Hall, Md.
They enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake and learned silversmithing, beadmaking and stone cutting to make jewelry they sold at a gallery in Rock Hall.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Mrs. Newlin is survived by another daughter, Virginia Doyle; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her daughter Marley Cox died in 1972 and her former husband died in 1988.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. April 17 at St. Paul's of Kent Episcopal Church, 7579 Sandy Bottom Rd., Chestertown, Md.
