George F. Schoener Jr., 52, of Ambler, a lawyer, died of a brain tumor last Thursday at home.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Schoener had a law practice in Philadelphia specializing in medical malpractice and product liability litigation. He was accredited as a certified civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

Mr. Schoener was a graduate of St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, where he was on the debating club. He was active with the school's alumni association and was a "mock trial" coach at the school for many years.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He was encouraged to become a lawyer by a business law professor at Rensselaer and graduated from Villanova University Law School in 1978. While his children were growing up, Mr. Schoener coached youth soccer teams in Whitpain Township. He was a serious runner and enjoyed socializing with runners, said his wife, Patrice Cipressi. He participated in several marathons.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, Mr. Schoener is survived by sons Michael and Stephen; a daughter, Kristin; his parents, George and Irene Schoener Sr.; five brothers; and a sister.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Gesu, 1733 W. Girard Ave., Philadelphia. Friends may call from 9 a.m. at the church Saturday and from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Ciavarelli Funeral Home, 951 E. Butler Pike, Ambler.
