Myron Schneeberg, 74, of Cheltenham, a urologist and retired medical director, died Monday of complications from dysphasia, a swallowing disorder, at Keystone Hospice in Wyndmoor.

Dr. Schneeberg maintained a urology practice at Rolling Hill Hospital, now Elkins Park Hospital, with his brother Arthur for 30 years. In 1994, he embarked on a new career as a medical director at Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia. He retired in 2003.

He had a caring, can-do attitude and was beloved by his patients and colleagues, said his wife, Helen Schreiber Schneeberg.

Dr. Schneeberg grew up in West Oak Lane and graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia. He earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University.

He interned at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, then completed a surgical residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and a urological residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was affiliated with Einstein Medical Center and served as chief of urology, president of the medical staff, and medical director at Rolling Hill Hospital.

He also headed the urology division at Frankford Hospital. He was board-certified in surgery and urology.

Dr. Schneeberg was a veteran of the Army Reserves who enjoyed music, theater, golf and travel. He used his surgeon's skills to make model cars and to create beautiful needlepoint, his wife said.

He directed skits performed by the Bed Pan Players, a doctors' group.

In addition to his wife of 49 years and his brother, he is survived by daughters Judy Charny and Harriet Ellis, and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 1:45 p.m. tomorrow at Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael-Sacks, 6410 N. Broad St., Philadelphia. Burial will be in Adath Jeshurun Cemetery, Philadelphia.
