Lynne M. Maletz, 51, of Upper Salford, a veterinarian, died of pancreatic cancer June 7 at home.

Dr. Maletz grew up in Huntingdon Valley and graduated from Gwynedd Mercy Academy. She earned a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University. After earning a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, she joined a group practice in Lansdale.

Ten years ago she established her own veterinary practice in Schwenksville, where she cared for farm animals and horses as well as house pets. Her dog, Marisol, was her constant companion, her brother Frank said. She continued to work through chemotherapy and radiation treatments until March, he said. Her family had received many tributes from her patients' owners, he said, including one who wrote: "Lynne added light to her profession."

She was an exquisite cook, Frank Maletz said, and an enthusiastic hiker. She loved nature and designed and built her home to blend with the environment, he said.

In addition to her brother, Dr. Maletz is survived by her father, Richard Maletz; her life partner, Darlene Wright Maletz; two nieces; and a nephew.

A Memorial Mass will be said at 7 p.m. today at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Procter Rd., Philadelphia.
