David P. Talone, 55, of St. Davids, co-owner of A. Talone Dry Cleaners in Ardmore, a century-old Main Line institution, died at home Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.
David P. Talone, 55, of St. Davids, co-owner of A. Talone Dry Cleaners in Ardmore, a century-old Main Line institution, died at home Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.
At 16, Mr. Talone began helping out at the dry cleaner's that his grandfather Alphonso had started in a converted barn behind his tailor shop in Ardmore. After graduating from Lower Merion High School, he earned a bachelor's degree from Temple University at night while working in the family business. He and his sister Eileen and cousin Andrew Talone became co-owners of the firm.
In 1981, Mr. Talone married his teenage sweetheart, Trisha Pentony. He was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, in 1987, and had been on chemotherapy since the cancer metastasized to his lungs eight years ago, his wife said.
In addition to his wife and sister, Mr. Talone is survived by daughters Bridget, Eileen, and Mia; two brothers; and two sisters.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Katharine of Siena Church, Lancaster and Aberdeen Avenues, Wayne. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at McConaghy Funeral Home, 328 W. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
