Lawrence R. Scheetz | Lawyer, veteran, 64

Lawrence R. Scheetz, 64, of Newtown, Bucks County, a lawyer and decorated Vietnam War veteran, died of cancer Friday at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Mr. Scheetz graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, where he was student government president his senior year. He earned a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University. He served in the Army, and while on a tour of duty in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

After his discharge, he earned a law degree from Temple University. Mr. Scheetz was a founding partner of Williams & Scheetz, a general litigation law firm in Richboro. He served on the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and was president of the Northampton Township Business and Professional Association.

When his children were growing up, he coached youth baseball and soccer and later attended all their high school and college athletic events, his son Lawrence Jr. said. He was an active supporter of Villa Joseph Academy in Holland and Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem.

Mr. Scheetz was an Eagles and Penn State football fan. He enjoyed fantasy football, golf, travel, fine dining, and spending time with his family in Sea Isle City, N.J.

In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Catherine Walsh Scheetz; daughters Colleen Jaconetti, Anne Damon and Mary Catherine; and four grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew Church, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. tomorrow and from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
