Lawrence H. Wentz | Insurance broker, 70

Lawrence H. Wentz, 70, of East Oak Lane, an insurance broker and father of 13, died of cancer Monday at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.

Mr. Wentz graduated from La Salle College High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame University. He then joined Kindt, Kaye & Wentz, an insurance company his father cofounded in 1936. The firm is now in Horsham.

In 1959, he married Lou Ann Kelley. While their children were growing up, he coached softball and baseball for Police Athletic League teams. He never missed his children's sports games, recitals or school events, and loved taking family photos, his daughter Veronica said.

Every summer, she said, he piled everyone in the station wagon and took road trips around the country. They visited New Orleans, the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, Washington, Indiana to visit his alma mater, and everywhere in Pennsylvania, she said. One summer, he drove out West with his grandsons.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Wentz is survived by daughters Mary, Majella Macolino, Hope Amons, Rebecca and Julie; sons Peter, Matthew, Edward, James, Jerome, and Joseph; and 13 grandchildren. A son, Lawrence, died in 1981.

A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Helena Roman Catholic Church, Fifth Street and Godfrey Avenue, Philadelphia. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. at the church and from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Fluehr Funeral Home, 3301 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
