Glenn W. Ferguson | Ex-envoy to Kenya, 78

Glenn W. Ferguson, 78, a former ambassador to Kenya and president of the University of Connecticut, died Dec. 20 of cancer at his home in Santa Fe, N.M., his wife, Patricia Head Ferguson, said this week.

Between 1961 and 1969, he held various posts in the administrations of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, including U.S. ambassador to Kenya from 1966 to 1969, and with the Peace Corps and Volunteers in Service to America.

According to a biography from the University of Connecticut, where Mr. Ferguson was president from 1973 to 1978, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in business administration from Cornell University and a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

He left the university job to become chief executive officer of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
