Carol A. Goldring | Haverford teacher, 61
Carol A. Trella Goldring, 61, of Havertown, a teacher in the Haverford Township School District for 30 years, died of cancer Friday at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood.
A native of Quecreek, in western Pennsylvania, Mrs. Goldring earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1971 she became an English teacher at Haverford High School. Two years later she married Henry Goldring. She took time off when her children were small and then returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher at Haverford High School and Haverford Middle School.
For 10 years, until June, she was a permanent substitute in Haverford Middle School and for several years was adviser to the school's yearbook.
A seamstress, Mrs. Goldring made her children's clothing and often made custom drapes for friends. She enjoyed travel, theater, exercise and entertaining. For 27 years she played the tile game cub rummy with a group of friends who were originally part of a playgroup of mothers and children.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Goldring is survived by a son, David, and a daughter, Suzanne Nielsen.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Rd., Broomall. Friends may call at Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, 2001 Sproul Rd., Broomall, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. tomorrow.
