Edward Marshall Jr. | Company owner, 82

Edward E. Marshall Jr., 82, a retired company owner formerly of Huntingdon Valley, died of heart failure Monday at Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell.

Mr. Marshall graduated from William Penn Charter School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1948. At Penn, he played football for famed coach George Munger. The summer after his graduation, he lost his chance to play professional football, his son Edward III said, when he was injured in a horseback riding accident. He served in the Naval Reserve for 10 years.

In 1949, Mr. Marshall married Janice Wharton. The next year he established Huntingdon Industries, a producer of packaging machinery for the food and beverage industry. He sold the firm in 1981, and then for 10 years owned Seamco, a manufacturer of sports balls in Hatfield.

Mr. Marshall was former master of the Huntingdon Valley Hunt. A scratch golfer, he was past president of the Golf Association of Philadelphia; served on the executive committee of the U.S. Golf Association; and was vice president of Huntingdon Valley Country Club. He was also a member of the Pine Valley Golf Club in Clementon.

In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Marshall is survived by sons Steven and James; a daughter, Leslee; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1333 Old Welsh Rd., Huntingdon Valley. Friends may call at 10 a.m.
