Margaret Guy | Crafts artist, veteran, 88
Margaret Kline Wehner Guy, 88, formerly of Villanova, a crafts artist and World War II veteran, died of cancer Monday at Beaumont, a retirement community in Bryn Mawr.
Mrs. Guy graduated from Overbrook High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University. She served in the Women's Marine Corps Reserve in the States. Though she was a noncombatant, she learned to fire a rifle, said her son, Mark Wehner.
In 1948, she married John M. Wehner Jr. After her children were grown, she became an expert in Early American decorative arts, especially stenciling. She stenciled trays, furniture and boxes and walls. "It became her passion," her son said.
Mrs. Guy was past president of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration, which perpetuates techniques used to decorate homes in the 18th and 19th centuries.
For many years, she was a volunteer at the Trading Post, a thrift shop in Paoli that benefits Fox Chase Cancer Center.
She was an avid gardener and bridge player and enjoyed spending time in Wildwood with a group of high school friends, the Overbrook Owls.
Mrs. Guy's first husband died in 1995. In 2001, she married John Guy.
In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by a daughter, Meredith Luckewicz; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at St. David's Episcopal Church, where Mrs. Guy was a member of the Altar Guild, 763 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne.
