Dale D. Gianforte | Radnor teacher, 71
Dale Douglass Gianforte, 71, of West Chester, a former Radnor High School teacher, died of esophageal cancer Sunday at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
A native of Pittstown, N.J., Mrs. Gianforte earned a bachelor's degree from Montclair State University in New Jersey and a master's degree in counseling from Villanova University. She taught in schools in Westfield, N.J., San Diego, and Daytona, Fla., before moving to King of Prussia in 1965.
Mrs. Gianforte taught math at Radnor High School for 17 years and headed the math department for several years. After retiring in the mid-1980s, she and her husband, Frank Gianforte, owned and managed properties on Long Beach Island, N.J., including a bed and breakfast in Beach Haven, and built an oceanfront home in Ship Bottom, N.J. They also bought a winter home in San Diego, where they had spent the early years of their marriage.
Since 1994, they had lived at Hershey's Mill in West Chester and continued to winter in San Diego.
Mrs. Gianforte volunteered with the Presbyterian Crisis Center in San Diego and enjoyed golf. A talented knitter, she made items for residents of Pocopson Home in Chester County, infant caps for a church charity, and sweaters for her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by sons Greg, Douglass, and Michael; two brothers; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 South Valley Rd., Paoli.
