Ernest Artur | Realtor, 83

Ernest Artur, 83, of Jenkintown, a Realtor who sold homes in Northeast Philadelphia for 50 years, died of cancer Sunday at Deer Meadows, a retirement community in Philadelphia.

Mr. Artur graduated from Frankford High School, and served in the Army during World War II. He landed on Utah Beach on the second day of the Normandy invasion and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

After his discharge, he earned a bachelor's degree from Temple University and worked for a real estate agent in Bridesburg. In 1951 he established the Artur Real Estate Co. He established the Penta Insurance Co. in the Northeast in 1964 with four other brokers. He was a past president of the Northeast Council of the Philadelphia Board of Realtors. He retired in the early 1990s.

Mr. Artur was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of Italy Lodge in Frankford. He enjoyed the Eagles, Phillies, and Temple football and basketball, and played golf at the Torresdale-Frankford Country Club until two years ago, his son Christopher said.

Mr. Artur is also survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Anne Angelo Artur; sons Ernest Jr. and Kenneth; six grandchildren; and a sister.

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. today at Mater Dolorosa Church, 1676 Ruan St., Philadelphia, where friends may call after 9. Burial will be in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge.
