M. Stuart Goldin | Lawyer, 86

M. Stuart Goldin, 86, formerly of Springfield, Delaware County, and Center City, a retired lawyer with the Cozen O'Connor firm, died of a stroke March 26 at his home in San Diego.

Mr. Goldin graduated from Overbrook High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II he served in the Army with an armored division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

After his discharge he earned a law degree from Penn and was managing editor of the law review.

He then practiced law with his father, Abe J. Goldin, in Philadelphia. After his father died in 1966, he was a partner with Isenberg, Goldin & Blumberg. The firm merged with Cozen O'Connor in 1984. In 1987 he and two other Cozen O'Connor partners established the firm's San Diego office; he passed the California bar at 66. He wrote numerous articles on insurance law, including a textbook,

Law of Insurance in Pennsylvania.

He retired in 1999.

Mr. Goldin was a former member of Temple Shalom in Broomall. He enjoyed classical music, opera and theater. As a teen he studied with Philadelphia Orchestra flutist William Kincaid, and took flute lessons again after he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pearl Schechter Goldin; a son, Owen; daughters Cynthia Lavenda and Nancy; a sister; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside service will be June 1 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego.
