Minnie McCollough | Bookstore manager, 81

Minnie "Marty" McMullin McCollough, 81, formerly of Wayne, a mother of six who managed the bookstore at the Shipley School for 25 years, died of heart failure Sunday at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square.

Mrs. McCollough graduated from Swarthmore High School and attended Rollins College in Florida. When her father became ill, she returned home and worked for Provident Bank in Philadelphia.

In 1950, she married James H. McCollough. He died in 1968, when their oldest child was 16 and the youngest 6. Mrs. McCollough went to work ordering books at Shipley, a private school in Bryn Mawr for students from preschool through high school. She was self-sufficient, her daughter Julie Burns said, and did all the yard work and maintenance at her home.

She enjoyed politics and tending her flower beds.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. McCollough is survived by sons James, George and John; daughters Barbara Rompala and Mary; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Donohue Funeral Home, 366 W. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, where friends may call after 10:30. Burial will be in St. Christopher's Cemetery, Gladwyne.
