Barbara J. Kleeman | Tested home schools, 57

Barbara Jean Kraus Kleeman, 57, of Sellersville, a home-school evaluator, died of cancer Thursday at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.

Barbara Jean Kraus Kleeman, 57, of Sellersville, a home-school evaluator, died of cancer Thursday at Grand View Hospital in Sellersville.

For almost six years, Mrs. Kleeman was a home-school evaluator in 11 school districts in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

She had home-schooled their son and daughter, and was experienced in the alternative education method, her husband, Charles L. Kleeman Jr., said. She taught her children, he said, because she felt that Christian morals and values were not being taught in the public schools.

Mrs. Kleeman graduated from Abington High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Drexel University, where she met her husband, and earned a master's degree in science and nutrition from Pennsylvania State University.

For several years, she was a registered dietician with the National Dairy Council of Southampton.

She conducted Bible studies for neighborhood women, and loved teaching, gardening, and being a wife and mother, her husband said.

Her daughter, Jennifer, married to Adam Dieffenbach May 18 in  the intensive care waiting room of Grand View Hospital so she could be present, Charles Kleeman said.

In addition to her husband of 32 years,  and daughter, Mrs. Kleeman by  a son, Mark; her mother, Jean DeKalb Kraus; and a sister.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 310 Covenant Lane, Harleysville.

Mrs. Kleeman was member of the church women's group and a Sunday School teacher.
