John D. Minton Sr., 86, a former president of Western Kentucky University and father of the new chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court, has died, the university said.
John D. Minton Sr., 86, a former president of Western Kentucky University and father of the new chief justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court, has died, the university said.
Mr. Minton died Sunday morning.
In 1979, he became the fifth president of Western Kentucky, serving from Jan. 8 to July 31 of that year. He was named vice president for Student Affairs in 1981 and retired in 1986, continuing to teach part time during retirement.
Mr. Minton chaired the faculty athletic committee at Western Kentucky during most of his career and served as president of the Sun Belt Conference. He was responsible for implementing Title IX at Western Kentucky.
His son, John D. Minton Jr., was sworn in as Kentucky's chief justice Friday.
